Another call to arms: B-A, P-O, Ridge return top pitchers

For defending District 6 champions Bellwood-Antis and Philipsburg-Osceola and runners-up Central and Huntingdon and District 5 champion Chestnut Ridge, pitching was a big factor in the 2012 season.

It will likely be that way again in 2013.

B-A’s Taylor Payne and P-O’s Kate Burge return to lead their respective teams, as does Central’s Kylie Gunnett. Ridge returns both of its pitchers in Bridgit Yothers and Jennifer Carthew.

Claysburg-Kimmel, however, will have to find somebody to replace graduated star pitcher Ronette Claar.

The following is a capsulized look at area teams.

Strengths: “The girls have a good work ethic and are determined to play hard and win games. They have set their preseason goals high and are working to achieve them. Our defense and offense should be strong.”

Overall outlook: “I look for us to compete strongly. Every loss, except one, last year we should have won. I look for us to be strong at the plate, and I hope our defense can hold off the opponents by not giving up the big innings.”
