From Mirror reports
ERIE — The Curve fell in a big hole early and didn’t get their offense going until it was too late Thursday night.
Erie scored three runs in the first inning and held on for a 5-3 win over Altoona in the first game of the second half at UPMC Park. The Curve dropped 3¢ games behind Bowie and two behind Erie in the Western Division standings.
The SeaWolves tagged Curve starter Sean Brady for three runs in the opening inning, capped by a two-run double from Daniel Pinero. An error on shortstop Gift Ngoepe also helped open the doors for Erie to score in the inning.
Altoona trailed 4-0 before getting on the board in the sixth. Jared Oliva tripled and came in to score on the play on a throwing error.
The Curve were down 5-1 entering the ninth, only to draw closer on a two-run single by Robbie Glendinning. Altoona drew no closer, though, and had its four-game winning streak snapped.
Brady (3-8) took the loss, allowing four runs — one earned — on six hits in six innings. Erie starter Logan Shore (3-7) picked up the win, giving up one unearned run on just two hits over six innings.
The Curve had swept Erie in a three-game series this past weekend prior to the Eastern League All-Star break. But the SeaWolves got some revenge and now will look to gain more ground on Altoona in the standings over the final three games of the series.
