Covering the bases

LEADING OFF: The Curve were off Monday and begin a three-game series at Binghamton tonight.

SAFE AT FIRST: Pitchers tonight: Curve RHP Tanner Anderson (2-2, 2.90) vs. Rumble Ponies RHP Casey Delgado (1-4, 7.28).

STEALING SECOND: You read that right above: The Binghamton team is now called the Rumble Ponies, having changed its name during the offseason from B-Mets. The nickname beat out Stud Muffins in the finals of a fan vote. What is a Rumble Pony, you’re wondering? According to the team it’s, “a tribute to the Triple Cities’ rich carousel heritage, the Rumble Ponies is a herd of fierce horses that no carousel center pole can contain.”

ROUNDING THIRD: Curve 2B Kevin Kramer has reached base in 30 straight games, and he has a chance in this series to tie the franchise record of 33 shared by Ronny Paulino and Steve Pearce.

HEADING HOME: Looking ahead to one possibility: Tim Tebow is in low-A with the Mets and has played decent so far, hitting .243 with two homers, 11 RBIs and a .687 OPS in 29 games. Binghamton plays in Altoona on July 4-6, so if the Mets were to decide to send him to Double-A by then, he would play at PNG Field. The organization would be opting to have him skip high-A ball, which is rarely done, although since Tebow is 29 years old, his career development could be different than a typical minor leaguer.
