Covering the bases

LEADING OFF: 2B Kevin Kramer extended his on-base streak to 29 games Friday, just four shy of the Curve record shared by Ronny Paulino (2004) and Steve Pearce (2007). What’s most impressive is that Kramer’s streak is at the very start of his Double-A career as he’s reached base in the first 29 games he’s played for Altoona, by far the longest stretch for a newcomer.

SAFE AT FIRST: Kramer’s streak was in danger in the seventh inning, but he drew an intentional walk to keep it alive.

STEALING SECOND: Kramer (.371) and 1B Edwin Espinal (.361) entered the day 1-2 in the Eastern League in hitting, but neither had a hit. It was the first time all season that both were held hitless during a game in which both played. They are now second and fifth, respectively, in EL hitting at .358 and .347.

ROUNDING THIRD: C Jackson Williams went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run for the Curve. The veteran, who has had two stints in the major leagues, has been a welcome addition to the club. In other catching news, Tomas Morales was placed on the roster of short-season West Virginia, while Zane Chavez was added to the active roster.

HEADING HOME: Tonight is pro wrestling night at the ballpark, featuring an appearance by the legendary Sgt. Slaughter. There also will be a wrestling-themed postgame fireworks show.
