All-Star Stop set to kick off

Tonight, the Eastern League All-Star Stop presented by UPMC Health Plan, gets underway at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

The two-day event kicks off with the Wounded War Amputee vs. Curve Alumni Softball Game. Gates open at 5 p.m.

Adam Hyzdu, Jack Wilson, Tike Redmond and current Curve Coach Miles Durham are among the former players in the contest.

Former catcher Chris Snusz, infielder Ray Navarette, and outfielder Kory DeHaan will also take part in the game. The game will work much like a regular softball game, and is expected to go 1 hour, 15 minutes.

Immediately following the Heroes Game, the Curve will dedicate section 112, row three, seat three in honor of Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action. The seat will be kept vacant throughout each of the remaining home games as well as non-gameday events.

The night will be capped off with a hitting challenge that includes a ghostman twist, featuring three of the top home run hitters in each division.

Trenton’s Peter O’Brien and Gary Sanchez, and Kenny Vargas from New Britain will represent the East. Altoona’s Willy Garcia, Harrisburg’s Michael Taylor and Bowie’s Christian Walker, will hit for the West.

Wednesday, fans can meet the all-stars at Fan Fest. Both teams will have players at stations throughout the ballpark from 4-6:15 when that team is not taking batting practice.

The festivities conclude with the Eastern League All-Star Clash beginning at 7 p.m., gates will open up at 4 p.m.
