Pimentel helps Curve win third straight

TRENTON, N.J. – Pirates reliever Stolmy Pimentel had a successful and relatively smooth night in his second minor league rehab appearance to help the Curve win their third straight following a 10-game skid.

Pimentel started and pitched three shutout innings, allowing three hits, one walk and five strikeouts in the Curve’s 11-2 win over Trenton at Arm & Hammer Park. The right-hander tossed 46 pitches, 29 for strikes.

Pimentel did run into trouble in the second with runners at first and second, but he struck out Taylor Dugas to end the threat.

Pimentel, who is recovering from right shoulder inflammation, went two innings, walked one and had two strikeouts in an appearance with Single-A Bradenton on Monday.

Matt Benedict replaced him and went 2 innings for the Curve, allowing two earned runs on three hits.

Emmanuel De Leon (1-1) earned the victory, going 1 innings and giving up two hits with one strikeout.

There was no shortage of run support for the pitchers as every member of the Curve lineup managed to register at least one base hit.

The offensive barrage was led by Gift Ngoepe, who went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, while Keon Broxton went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs. The big night included 15 hits, and the Curve snapped a six-game road losing streak.

Altoona blew the game open in the fifth when Alen Hanson and Elias Diaz both belted two-run doubles for a 6-0 lead.

Graham Stoneburner (2-3) was shelled in his second straight outing, giving up six runs on 10 hits for the Thunder.
