Curve recover to beat Cats

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Curve have been poor on the road, going 11-20 away from Peoples Natural Gas Field.

But one place they have been successful as of late is New Hampshire, where the team started an 11-game road trip Tuesday night.

Thanks to a two-run ninth inning, the Curve extended their winning streak at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium to five games with a 4-2 victory over the Fisher Cats.

All-time, the Curve are now 18-13 in Manchester.

Adrian Sampson started for the Curve and pitched seven strong innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out six. That wouldn’t earn him a win, however, as the bullpen blew its second save in as many games and 12th on the season.

New Hampshire’s Kenny Wilson scored on Mike McDade’s double to tie the game against Altoona’s Jhonathan Ramos in the eighth.

The Curve reclaimed the lead for good on Elias Diaz’s sacrifice fly that scored Keon Broxton in the ninth. Jarek Cunningham’s RBI-single scored pinch-runner Drew Maggi for an insurance run.

Ramos (2-3) picked up the win for the Curve, while Quinton Miller finished it off in the ninth for his fourth save.

Randy Boone (0-3) took the loss for the Fisher Cats, giving up the game-winning runs on three hits.

New Hampshire starter P.J. Walters allowed two runs on six hits. He had previously shut the Curve out on May 31 following a trade from Kansas City.

The Curve got on the board in the third with Gift Ngoepe’s fifth home run of the year to right field for the early advantage. Andy Vasquez led off the fourth with a solo shot to give the Curve a 2-0 lead.

Alen Hanson’s double in the sixth extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
