Sadler tough on road for Curve

From Mirror reports

RICHMOND Va. – Curve pitcher Casey Sadler must get pumped up from bus rides.

The righty improved his record to 4-0 in away games this year, pitching seven scoreless innings to help the Curve down Richmond, 2-1, Friday night at the Diamond.

Sadler has given up just three runs on the road this season, and he improved his ERA to 0.67 away from home.

Sadler (5-3, 2.79 ERA) struck out three and gave up five hits for Altoona, which is now just three games below .500 (19-22) after going 4-1 in its last five.

The Curve are also 7-4 against the Flying Squirrels this year.

In a game that was a pitchers’ duel early on, Sadler gave up three hits through four innings.

Losing pitcher Craig Westcott (2-4) gave up as many hits as Sadler, struck out five and surrendered one run. Jason Townsend got his third save of the season despite giving up a run in the ninth inning.

Offensively, Jarek Cunningham belted his sixth home run in the fifth inning to give Altoona a 1-0 lead. The homer was the club’s second hit of the night, and it was the first time a Curve player hit a home run since May 8.

Catcher Carlos Paulino drove in Andrew Lambo for an insurance run in the ninth.

Sadler also got some defensive help from the Curve as the team turned two double plays. Right fielder Alex Dickerson also aided Sadler’s cause, throwing out Ryan Lollis at the plate in the sixth inning, saving the tying run from scoring.

At Peoples Natural Gas Field, Sadler has struggled. He is 1-3 at home and has given up 16 earned runs. His ERA at home is 4.65.
