Rain puts a halt to Curve losing skid
From Mirror reports
READING – Curve right fielder Justin Howard saved the team from losing its sixth straight game Thursday.
But Howard didn’t win it for the Curve, either.
Howard’s single in the top of the sixth inning tied the game at 2-2 for the Curve, who were trying to avoid being swept by Reading at FirstEnergy Stadium.
The run the Howard knocked in proved to save the Curve from being swept as the game went into a 1 hour, 35-minute rain delay and was ultimately suspended in the top of the eighth. If Howard hadn’t driven in Andrew Lambo, who tripled, the Curve would have been trailing when the game was called, and Reading would have won.
However, Howard’s RBI will allow the game to resume June 4 at Peoples Natural Gas.
Howard, who spent last season with Single-A Bradenton, moved up to the Curve at the start of the season.
Howard, who was pinch-hitting for the most part, struggled and hit just .083 in the beginning of the season. He was then put on the disabled list at the beginning of May.
But the same day outfielder Alex Dickerson was put on the DL, Howard moved off, and the Texas native has been one of the bright spots for the struggling Curve the past two days.
He has improved his batting average to .227 from his season low of .063 in three games. Along with the RBI on Thursday, Howard went 3-for-3 with a run and a double.
In the Curve’s loss on Wednesday, Howard had one of the team’s four homers, and in the last two games, he’s gone 4-for-6.
Howard will most likely see more playing time as Dickerson will be on the disabled list until at least Monday.
