Wagner shines at Selinsgrove

Area Auto Racing

SELINSGROVE — Logan Wagner of Harrisonville wired the field for the $20,000 victory in Saturday night’s Jim Nace Memorial 37th Annual National Open for 410 sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway.

The win was Wagner’s first career at Selinsgrove behind the wheel of the Zemco Racing No. 1. He became the 19th different driver to win the speedway’s crown jewel sprint car race.

For the past 10 years, the race honored the memory of former five-time sprint car champion Jim Nace of Thompsontown.

Afternoon rain and nighttime humidity produced a smooth, lightning-fast racing surface for the stellar field of drivers all evening.

Kerry Madsen of St. Mary’s, New South Wales, Australia, broke the one-lap track for 410 sprint cars in qualifying with a lap time of 15.694, eclipsing the 2011 track record of 15.810 set by Daryn Pittman of Pittsboro, Ind.

In all, five drivers broke the former record. Madsen collected the $300 Fast Tees fast time award.

Garrett Bard of Wells Tannery took the lead on the second lap of the 20-lap 305 sprint car feature and took the win in only his second visit to the track.

Williams Grove

MECHANICSBURG — Brian Montieth fought the battle with Freddie Rahmer and won the war at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night by taking the win in the 25-lap Dirt Classic Qualifier for 410 sprint cars.

For Montieth, the victory broke a 17-month win drought at the oval after last scoring a win in April 2018.

The win means that the Phoenixville flyer has earned a guaranteed starting spot in next Saturday’s prestigious Dirt Classic at nearby Lincoln Speedway.

In the 305 sprint main on Friday night, Dave Grube picked up the win from the second starting spot.

BAPS

YORK HAVEN — Scott Dellinger came into the 2019 season with high expectations in the Super Sportsman division at BAPS Motor Speedway.

There was a lot to live up to. A year ago, Dellinger posted nine wins on his way to the BAPS Motor Speedway track championship and also captured the biggest race of the season, the prestigious Sportsman 100.

Fast forward to this season, and things haven’t come as easy. Dellinger has scaled back to two wins and been chasing division dominator Kenny Edkin for most of the season.

But, the roles switched Saturday night as Dellinger was the man to beat, and he held off a charging Garrett Williamson over an entertaining final two laps to score the win in the 45th annual Gary Wolford Super Sportsman 100.

Brian Walls continued his dominance over the Morgan Paving/Aqua Fun Pools street stock field by winning the 20-lap main event.

Matt Findley established a 25-lap Lincoln track record of 7:02.436 seconds with his 358 Summer Series win on Saturday night. Findley also secured his second-place finish in the season long point standings with his non-stop feature win.

After leading the beginning of the xtreme stocks’ last appearance, Billy Powell was leading when it counted on Saturday to win the 15-lap feature.

n One of the most successful race car drivers of the last 20 years, Bobby Santos, III, from Franklin, Mass., etched his name into the record books of the Jennerstown Speedway Complex by winning the Must See Sprint Car Series event on Saturday night.
