Area Auto Racing

MECHANICSBURG — Danny Dietrich of Gettysburg struck for the third Mitch Smith Memorial victory of his career at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night — walking away with $8,080.80 for what was his fourth sprint car win of the season at the track in a World of Outlaws tune-up race.

Dietrich took the win ahead of a furious battle for positions in the top five that took place between Freddie Rahmer, Anthony Macri, Chad Trout, Brian Montieth and Lance Dewease.

The 20-lap 358 sprint main went to Kevin Nouse for his second oval win of the year.

Dog Hollow

STRONGSTOWN — Dylan Shatzer of Hagerstown made the tow to Dog Hollow Speedway and picked up his first career Laurel Highlands 305 sprint win on Lemonovich Racing Trophy night.

Other winners included: Mike Laughard of Twin Rocks in the Townsend Gas and Oil super late models, Mike Ott of Central City in the RUSH Crate late models, Nick Fulmer of Marion Center in the Iron Horse Salvage 358 semi-lates, Brad Benton of Duncansville in the Amsoil pure stocks and Jack Theys of South Fork in the D.M Craig Fabricating & Welding Service four-cylinders.

Port Royal

PORT ROYAL — Jared Esh came from the ninth starting position on a hot night to hold off a hard-charging Blane Haimbach and a broken shock to pick up his first career 410 sprint car victory on Saturday.

Dylan Yoder capitalized on a rare front row starting spot to lead every lap during River Valley Builders super late model action to become the track’s first two-time super late model feature winner of 2019.

In only his fourth career Penns Valley Meat Market PASS/IMCA 305 sprint car start, Garret Bard passed Devin Adams late in lap traffic to claim his first series win.

Elsewhere:

The Cypress Clock & Gift Shop street stocks were vying for a $2,000 payday while the Swanson Heavy Duty Truck Repair and Service semi-late models battled for a $1,200 payday.

The BWP Bats super late models, Sunny 106.5 FM pure stocks and the Lockwood Processing four-cylinders all were running for increased money also.

The night started off with newcomer Mike Wonderling in the No. 18 of Wellsville, NY taking the checkers and a $1,200 payday in the BWP Bats super late model feature.

Then, the No. 5L of Jon Lee of Mahaffey fought off challenge-after-challenge from the No. 1M of Zach Myers of Knox to win the Swanson Heavy Duty Truck Repair and Service semi-late model special.

LINCOLN: After leading the first two laps of the feature last week in his first night out in Aaron Long’s No. 58 410 sprint car, Jeff Halligan took the lead and never looked back.

Mason Chaney won his second show in the Central PA legends feature.

HIDDEN VALLEY: By a fluke of luck, Hidden Valley Speedway was able to beat the weather on Saturday night as Jenn’s Happy Tails Pet Grooming of Clearfield sponsored trophies and presented Kids Night with bicycle races and more taking place for the children.

Bob Dorman put the No. 19 on the outside and used it to his advantage to grab the feature win in the super late models: Josh Jacoby picked up the semi-late feature with Pat Fielding picked up the street stock feature as the skies opened up.

Ron Benton won in the pure stocks with Rob Williams claiming the four-cylinder feature, and Todd Reusser picked up the micro sprint victory.

JENNERSTOWN: After racing on June 29th was postponed due to rain, the Martella’s Pharmacies late model drivers competed in a regularly scheduled race plus a makeup event on the same night.

Also celebrating in Stoney’s Beer victory lane were Casey Fleegle (Tunstall Auto & Truck Repair street stocks), Scott Mitchell (Farmers Union Co-Op chargers), and Andrew Pluta (Somerset Trust Company Fast ‘n’ Furious four-cylinders).
