Altoona girls split meet

STATE COLLEGE — The Altoona cross country team suffered a few setbacks on Monday in a tri-meet with State College and Penns Valley, but the Altoona girls were able get a win when they defeated Penns Valley, 25-32, while falling to State College, 15-49, in high school action.

Mackenzie Kelley finished eighth for the Lady Lions in 22:10. State College freshman Jordan Reed won the girls race in 20:57.

In boys action, Gabe Ebersole and Brendan Henninger took sixth and seventh, respectively, each finishing in 18:20, Altoona fell to State College, 19-49. State College’s Owen Isham won the boys race in 16:52.

Penns Valley did not have enough runners to qualify for the boys meet, but sophomore Brendan Colwell finished second for the Rams in 16:54.

P-O, Highlanders split

PATTON — Matthew Shimmel won the boys race in 19:58 and Scott Frantz finished in 20:36 to help Philipsburg-Osceola to 16-41 win over Cambria Heights.

Gabe Sheridan was the top finisher for the Highlander boys, taking fifth place in 23:23.

In girls action, Cambria Heights won its 10th meet of the season when Quinn McElhenny (20:56) and Maggie McMullen (24:34) claimed the top two spots to lift the Lady Highlanders over Philipsburg-Osceola, 21-36.

Philipsburg’s Megan Kosut finished in third place with a time of 25:07.
