Kuntz, May among elite
CARLISLE — Central Cambria’s Stella Kuntz finished second and Bedford’s Van May finished third in the Girls and Boys Champion Races, respectively, in the Carlisle Invitational in high school cross country on Saturday.
Kuntz finished in 19 minutes, 7 seconds and was edged out by Cornwall’s Karrie Baloga, who won in 19:02. May finished in 16:35, and Woodgrove’s Rylan Pettit won in 16:09.
Kuntz helped the Central Cambria girls finish second out of 53 teams to Cornwall.
Paige Wess was sixth in 19:40 for the Lady Red Devils, Ella Vrabel was 12th (20:15), Faith Wilson was 17th (20:19), Abby Walwro was 39th (20:57), Kacy McKeel was 59th (21:16) and Anna Dill was 121st (22:11).
The Altoona girls ended up 22nd with Mackenzie Kelley leading the way with a 99th-place finish in 21:55. Other Altoona scorers were Gianna Marasco (131st, 22:20), Riley Boutiller (144th, 22:34), Aly Schobel (160th, 22:44) and Morgan Baker (173rd, 22:56).
The Bedford girls were 32nd with top finishers Leah Davidson (119th, 22:11), Jessica Dibert (157th, 22:41), Natalie Lippincott (198th, 23:15) and Ashley Ferguson (201st, 23:18).
The Central Cambria boys were seventh of 60 teams in the Champion race, and the Bedford boys were 40th.
Other top area boys finishers included Central Cambria’s Eli Wandel (43rd, 17:32), Nate Kuntz (55th, 17:38), Ohm Vyas (67th, 17:47), Adam Lechleitner (75th, 17:53) and Ike Haycisak (95th, 18:05), and Bedford’s Garret Cornell (128th, 18:24).
The Altoona boys were 28th out of 33 teams in the seeded Challenge race with Brayden Henninger leading the way with 127th-place finish in 17:44. Other Altoona scorers were Gabe Ebersole (159th, 18:04), Aidan Kelley (162nd, 18:07), Andrew Donlan (167th, 18:13) and Aiden Farabaugh (179th, 18:21).
Altoona was 18th in the junior varsity boys race, 28th in the JV girls race and fifth in the freshman boys race.
