BEDFORD — Ashley Grimes had 10 service points and eight kills, and Leah Bracken had 34 assists and six service points, to lead Central Cambria to a 25-12, 25-14, 25-6 sweep of Bedford in a Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference meet that opened the season for both teams on Thursday.

Emily Muffie had nine service points and five aces, and Jenna Bauer had 10 digs and six service points, for Central Cambria.

BC opens with win

EBENSBURG — The Bishop Carroll girls volleyball team opened its season Wednesday night with a 25-11, 25-14, 15-19 win over Westmont Hilltop in high school action.

Kayla Repko had 11 service points and 12 assists for the Lady Huskies, who also got eight digs from Kate Yahner and eight kills from Maura Yahner. Maddie Murphy added four blocks.

Clapper lead PC

JOHNSTOWN — Makalyn Clapper led Penn Cambria with 13 service points, eight kills and four blocks as the Lady Panthers swept Johnstown, 3-0 (25-5, 25-17, 25-17).

Macy Sral added 11 points, Laken Guzic contributed 12 assists and Mia McCarthy came up with nine digs.

BG outlasts Somerset

SOMERSET — With Alicia Nicolini scoring 20 service points and 16 digs, and Gabby Krug tallying 15 service points, 57 assists and 10 digs, Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic outlasted Somerset, 20-25, 25-22, 25-8, 24-26, 15-7 in a Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference road volleyball matchup that opened the season for both teams.

Beth Yahner logged eight service points, 14 kills and 18 digs, Emily Brown had 11 service points and 29 digs, Rachel Meintel had 10 kills and 25 digs, and Lyzee Wilson had a team-leading 19 kills for BG.

NEW PARIS — Chestnut Ridge defeated Richland, 25-15, 28-26, 25-23, in both teams’ openers.

Lydia Mock had 15 kills, nine digs and three aces while Makayla Weyant added three aces. Alaina Lafferty contributed 12 assists.
