Bell scores winner for Lady Tigers

From Mirror reports

Alyssa Bell scored off a corner kick from Rita Kendziora to give Hollidaysburg a 2-1 victory over Altoona on Tuesday night in high school girls soccer action at Mansion Park.

Bell one-timed Kendziora’s corner out of the air with her right foot to give the Lady Tigers momentum in a back-and-forth affair.

“It was back-and-forth the entire second half, and I thought the game could have gone either way,” Hollidaysburg coach Dave Soellner said. “Both teams had a lot of opportunities, but it all came down to that set piece off the corner kick.”

The Lady Lions (3-1) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Lauren Kiser found the back of the net off a pass from Darrian Berkheimer less than three minutes into the contest.

“Altoona started out fast and they scored within the first three minutes of the game,” Soellner said. “We switched up our formation to try to win the middle and it paid off for us.”

Hollidaysburg (4-1) got the equalizer 11 minutes later when Bell assisted Kendziora on a goal to knot the score.

“I think we played fine,” Altoona coach Derek Winterburn said. “We did a really good job of trying to build through the midfield, but every time we got down to the final third of the field, we were forcing a pass or trying to play through a Hollidaysburg player, stuff like that. You never know with the Altoona-Hollidaysburg rivalry. We could both be down or both be up, but it never really matters because it’s always a back-and-forth game because of the rivalry.”

The match remained scoreless until Bell’s game-winner with 16:15 left in the second half.
