Bedford claims LHAC for second straight year

JOHNSTOWN — Bedford topped Richland, 3-2, to clinch its second straight Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference championship in high school boys tennis Thursday afternoon.

Jess Hampton won a singles match, and the teams of Zach Kachman and Lance Dague and Joey Windows and Cole Hampton swept the doubles competition to lift the Bisons.

“I couldn’t be any prouder of this team as I am now,” Bedford coach Butch Beidle said. “I told them before the match to be there for one another and that when you go out onto that court, you’re playing and giving it your all for your teammates. God sure has blessed me with a fine team.”

Titans drop two

MIFFLINTOWN — Juniata swept Tussey Mountain by scores of 4-1 and 3-2 despite a pair of singles victories from the Titans’ Riley Gresko.

Derek Angelo and Paige Taylor won a doubles match in the second match for Tussey Mountain.

Golden Eagles lose

WINDBER — Tyrone’s Ethan Vipond won 8-0 as the Golden Eagles eventually lost at Windber, 5-2.

The team of Hunter Anderson and Tyler Beckwith won a doubles match as well for the Golden Eagles.
