Raiders coach says Cooper may play

The Associated Press

ALAMEDA, Calif. — Coach Jack Del Rio says there’s a “good chance” the Oakland Raiders will have receiver Amari Cooper back after he missed last week’s game with a sprained ankle.

Cooper was listed as questionable on Saturday for the game Monday night at Philadelphia.

In other injury news, cornerback David Amerson is listed as doubtful and will likely miss his eighth straight game with a foot injury. Defensive linemen Mario Edwards Jr. and Treyvon Hester have also been ruled out with ankle injuries.

Broncos hurting

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Injured wide receivers Emmanuel Sanders and Cody Latimer didn’t make the Denver Broncos’ trip to Washington and will miss today’s game against the Redskins.

Sanders has been dealing with a sprained ankle and Latimer a bruised thigh. They were listed as questionable this week.

Sanders is the Broncos’ second-leading receiver behind Demaryius Thomas and Latimer has emerged down the stretch as the next-best receiver in addition to being their top gunner and a key member of other special teams units.

That means the Broncos’ receiving corps will consist of Thomas, Bennie Fowler III, Jordan Taylor and rookie Isaiah McKenzie, their punt returner who was benched after fumbling six times.

Taking the blame

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters says he chose to throw an officials’ flag in frustration during a loss to the New York Jets, so he had nobody to blame but himself for the resulting one-game suspension.

The Pro Bowl alternate spoke to reporters Friday for the first time since the incident three weeks ago, a full 2 minutes in which he also professed his affinity for cognac and plan to beat Miami today so Chiefs fans can “go home and put out the cookies and milk for Santa.”

Peters missed the Chiefs’ win over Oakland ago while serving coach Andy Reid’s suspension, but returned last week against the Chargers to pick off two passes and force a fumble in a 30-13 victory.

The win left the Chiefs needing only to beat the Dolphins to win the AFC West.

Wagner a go

RENTON, Wash. — Linebacker Bobby Wagner practiced on Friday and will play when the Seattle Seahawks face the Dallas Cowboys despite a lingering hamstring problem.

Seattle coach Pete Carroll said Wagner is ahead of where he was last week when he did not practice at all and was a game-time decision against the Rams.

Seattle listed just three players as questionable for the must-win game against the Cowboys: safety Bradley McDougald, defensive end Frank Clark and tight end Nick Vannett.

Doubting Thomas?

METAIRIE, La. — The New Orleans Saints added leading receiver Michael Thomas to their injury report in advance of today’s game against Atlanta.

The club says Thomas, whose status was updated Saturday, has a hamstring injury. He is questionable for the matchup against the Falcons, who can move ahead of the Saints in the NFC South standings by winning the Christmas Eve clash.

Thomas has 94 catches for 1,085 yards and five touchdowns. He is just the second player, along with the New York Giants’ Odell Beckham, to catch at least 90 passes in his first two NFL seasons.

New Orleans is on top of the NFC South, but is just one game ahead of the Falcons, who have a chance to sweep the season series after winning the first meeting on Dec. 7.

New Orleans, Atlanta and Carolina are all within a game of one another in their race for the division title.
