James G. Walters, 85, Elizabethtown, died Tuesday morning at the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Harry G. and Lottie (Heeter) Walters.
Surviving are three children: Rodney J. of Sharpsburg, Md., Debra J. Mattson and husband, Don, of Denver, Pa., and Randall J. and wife, Jodi, of Boiling Springs; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley J. (Steckroth), on March 28, 1997; and two sisters.
James was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during WWII, and a 1954 graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor's degree. He was employed as operating superintendent at Penelec in Altoona, Shippensburg and Lewistown for 36 years, retiring in 1989.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Lewistown, Logan Lodge 490, F&AM, in Altoona, Valley of Altoona Consistory, Jaffa Shrine and Lewistown Elks Lodge. He was past president and member of the Shippensburg Rotary Club and president of the Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce, MCIDA Park and Plaza Committee and Logan Country Club.
James was an avid woodworker. He enjoyed golfing in his younger years, and he loved to hunt and go on missions trips. He was an avid Penn State fan, and he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Friends will be received from 9:30 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, Pastor Richard Bender officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
