Patricia A. Steinbeiser, 81, of Driftwood Apartments, Schoharie, N.Y., formerly of Altoona, embarked on what she called "the next big adventure" Friday at Cobleskill Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of Donald J. and Josephine (Fischer) Kopp.
Surviving are six children: Robert G. Jr. (Diane) of Raleigh, N.C., Patricia Haines of Naples, Fla., Johanna (Lawrence) Ennist of Gallupville, N.Y., Andrew (Terry) of Harpswell, Maine, Christian of Epsom, N.H., and Michael (Michelle) of Clifton Park, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, William M. Kopp of Altoona; a sister, Donna Sharrar of King of Prussia; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Patricia graduated from Altoona High School and later attended college. She married her husband, Robert G. Steinbeiser, on June 18, 1955, and dedicated her life to raising her six children in the family home in Marcellus, N.Y. She and her husband also resided in Barefoot Bay, Fla., before his death on Feb. 17, 2011. She relocated to Schoharie in May 2011, where she enjoyed her home in Driftwood Apartments. She enjoyed painting, but her greatest joy in life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as "Granny Pat."
Patricia was also known far and wide as the "Wicker Witch" after she turned her passion and knowledge of antique wicker furniture into a successful business for several years in Marcellus.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Delanson, N.Y. Interment will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Steinbeiser to Catskill Area Hospice, 125 Granite Drive, Suite 1, Cobleskill, NY 12043.
