Michael J. Noel Sr., 87, Coalport, died Friday at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.
He was born in Fallentimber, son of the late Michael and Minnie (Rickard) Noel.
Surviving are three children: Kenneth (Evelyn Hollis) of Fallentimber, David (Cher Knob) of Patton and Nancy Dotts (Bob) of Coalport; eight grandchildren: David Noel Jr. (Lara), Josh Noel (Amanda), Willie Noel, Jon Noel, Shawn Noel, Cameron Noel, Daniel Dotts (Kelly) and Melissa Hamilton (Kevin); seven great-grandchildren: Alaina, Olivia, Eli, Edie, Zack, Dillon and Shawn; and a sister, Teresa Wagner of Fallentimber.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Norma Kutruff, on June 9, 2011; a son, Michael Jr., in 1997, eight brothers: George, Lawrence, Ed, Raymond, Lewis, Gilbert and infant twin brothers; and a sister, Edith Kubat.
Mike was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He worked in several local coal mines and retired from Bethlehem Mine 32, Ebensburg.
Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading, and he enjoyed playing pool, darts and baseball in his younger days. He was a member of UMWA, Patton VFW and Moose, Glendale Sportsmen and St. Basil Catholic Church, Coalport.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 1085 Main St., Coalport, where a vigil service will be held. Military Rites are in charge of Patton VFW. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at St. Basil Catholic Church, Coalport, the Rev. Zab Amar, Celebrant. Committal will be at Beaver Valley Cemetery, Flinton.
