George G. "Gene" Ketner, 82, Lakemont, died Thursday morning at Golden LivingCenter-Hillview.
He was born in Hollidaysburg, son of the late George O. and Minnie (Benner) Ketner. He married Susanne R. Jayne on June 21, 1959, on Long Island, N.Y.
Surviving are his wife, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage; three daughters: Audrey L. Snoberger and husband, Bill, in Virginia, Peggy S. Cook and husband, Wayne, of Duncansville and Gina E. Ketner and fiance, Roy Nagle Jr., of Portage; seven grandchildren: Will Jr. and wife, Jessica, Victoria, Aaron, Megan, Sara, Alexa and Erica; and a sister, Shirley Smith of Hollidaysburg.
He was preceded in death by two granddaughters: Sandra Snoberger and Miranda Cook; two brothers: Vernon and Gerald; and a sister, Marian Watson.
Gene was a 1949 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict, retiring after 20 years of service. He then was employed at Wissinger's IGA in Altoona and retired after 10 years of service. He had been a member of Lakemont United Methodist Church for 71 years and also belonged to the Lakemont Lions Club.
Gene enjoyed bowling and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. today, Aug. 30, 2014, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. by Pastor Charles H. Reinaker, followed by full military honors by Blair County Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be held at Presbyterian Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
Memorials may be given to Lakemont United Methodist Church.
