Carl W. "Bill" Dixon, 90, Behringer Highway, DuBois, died Monday at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Sabula, son of the late Lawrence E. and Mary A. (Hildebrand) Dixon. He married Ruth Hoover on Oct. 2, 1948, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 2013.
Surviving are two children: Paul W. and wife, Patty, of Altoona and Karen A. Michael of DuBois; five grandchildren: Michael Murray, McKenna Dixon, Marina Dixon, Christina Kinder and Dylan Michael; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Joe of Clearwater, Fla., and Wilford of Sabula.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry; three brothers: Kenneth, Charles and James; and three sisters: Lenora Dixon, Marceline Strong and Viola McCracken.
Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in Co. C, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Division, during WWII. He retired from Symmco Inc. in Sykesville, and previous to that, he had worked at Armagost Steel and Sekula Sign Corp. He was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in DuBois, Garfield Lodge 559, F&AM, and Coudersport Consistory. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at Goble Baronick Funeral Home, DuBois, where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at the funeral home, Pastor Kelley Schanely officiating. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
