Jack Glenn Ickes, 77, Tyrone, died Thursday at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.
He was born in Altoona, son of Ross A. and Edna Wolfe Ickes. He married Marjorie Ann Hevner on July 3, 1959, in Altoona. She preceded him in death April 17, 2001.
Surviving are a son, Mark Ickes and his wife, Pamela Tokar-Ickes, of Somerset; a daughter, Lisa Ickes of Tyrone; two grandsons, Bradford Ickes and his wife, Jennifer, and Terrell Ickes, both of Somerset; three great-grandchildren: Greyson, Karsyn and Easton, all of Somerset; a sister-in-law, Patricia (Ickes) Wilt of Altoona; and a friend, Nancy Wise of Altoona.
The last of his immediate family, Jack was preceded in death by two brothers: Paul W. Ickes and his wife, June, and George Ross Ickes.
Jack was a 1954 graduate of Altoona High School. He served with the U.S. Army Air Force during the Korean conflict era. He had been employed as a laboratory technician at Tyrone Hospital for 40 years, retiring in 1998.
Jack was a member of First English Lutheran Church of Tyrone. He was a member of Howard Gardner Post 281 American Legion, Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company, Bavarian Aid Society of Altoona and Sinking Valley Country Club. He enjoyed golfing with his friends and grandsons, traveling, gardening and most of all, spending time with his family.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at First English Lutheran Church, 17 W. 13th St., Tyrone, PA 16686, with Pastor Sharon Erb officiating.
