Alfred G. "Fred" Nardelli, 63, DeBary, Fla., formerly of Altoona, died Aug. 7, 2014, at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, Orange City, Fla., after a valiant battle with brain cancer.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Joseph and Caroline (Pulcino) Nardelli. He married Jo Anne Fiore on Oct. 27, 1973, in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife, Jo Anne; a son, John Joseph of DeBary; a daughter, Janine Anne Shuck (Kenneth) of Leander, Texas; four grandchildren: Camryn Nardelli and Paige, Riley and Kendall Shuck; a brother, Joseph (Patti Gould) in New Jersey; two sisters: Loretta Smearman (William) of Altoona and Lisa Whiteside (Kevin) of Warfordsburg; and a brother-in-law, John Joseph Fiore of Altoona.
Fred was a 1969 graduate of Altoona Area High School and attended Penn State University. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve for six years, and he retired in 2011 from Amtrak as superintendent of the Auto Train after 36 years of service. He had also worked for Penn Central and as a consultant for Parsons Brinckerhoff World. He enjoyed sports cars and motorcycles.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona, officiated by Father Leo Lynch.
