John H. "Jack" Leiden, 80, Altoona, passed away Tuesday morning at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Altoona, son of Aloysius and Mary (Frischkorn) Leiden. He married Sally A. May on April 27, 1957, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years; two sons: Curtis of Boston, Mass., and Noah (Susan) of Purcellville, Va.; two daughters: Deborah Tochtermann in Maryland and Heidi Leiden of Pittsburgh; and five grandchildren: Leiden and Jordan Tochtermann and Madeleine, Evan and Nathaniel Leiden.
Jack was a 1952 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and a 1959 graduate of Penn State University. He served as a rifle instructor in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953-56 and was a claims representative for Hartford Insurance until retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, as well as Sylvan Hills Golf Club.
Jack enjoyed golf, spending time at the beach with his family, and tinkering around the house.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, by Monsignor Robert C. Mazur. Committal will be in Calvary Cemetery.
