Joseph Francis Becker, 94, passed away peacefully July 31, 2014, at Methodist Hospital, Sacramento, Calif.
He was born in Altoona.
Surviving are two daughters: Gail and Theresa; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Donald of Washington, D.C., and David of Altoona.
Joseph lost a son, Ronald, in a naval accident during the Vietnam War.
A shining example of the Greatest Generation, Joseph joined the U.S. Cavalry in 1941 but quickly transferred to the U.S. Army Air Corps. While stationed in Australia during WWII, he met and married his wife of nearly 60 years, Alice Prendergast. The family settled in California, where he worked in the aerospace industry and ultimately for NASA on the Apollo program.
A lifelong Catholic and longtime Greenhaven Estates resident, he was buried at Calvary Cemetery, Sacramento, Calif., on Aug. 4, 2014.
