Brian Chandler Harper, 59, East Loop area, died Friday at UPMC Altoona after he fought a long, hard battle with cancer.
He was born in Putnam, Conn., son of George and Janet (Mifflin) Harper. Brian married his wife and best friend, Betsy Marschak, on Feb. 8, 1985, in Lancaster.

Brian was preceded in death by a sister, Carrie.
Brian retired from Nolts Ponds in 1991 in Lancaster as a top sales representative for the company. He was a herpetologist for 40 years. His entire life's hobby was raising and breeding exotic tortoises. He was first in the country to breed the white leopard tortoise, which he named "The Snow Leopard."
Brian loved his special place called home and spent time in the woods doing what he enjoyed best, which was cutting firewood.
Brian always put other people first before himself and will be dearly missed by all who knew him because he was a very special person.
There will be no visitation or services. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to your favorite charity in Brian's name.
