ProActive Sports manager Tom Smith was expecting low-scoring affairs in his team's City League semifinal series against Locker Room.
His prediction didn't hold for Game 1, but it certainly did in Game 2.
With just a combined total of three hits, ProActive advanced to the City League championship with a 1-0 win in Game 2 over Locker Room at Vets Field on Saturday afternoon.
"Everyone expected a low-scoring game last night, and it ended up 11-9," Smith said. "We expected another one today, and this is the one that turned out to be. A play here or there, and that could have made all the difference in the series. We just happened to score a couple more runs."
Shane Suter's one-hitter paved the way for a quiet day at the plate for both teams. Suter, who threw a complete game, whiffed six batters and allowed just six baserunners.
Suter carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning before Jerrell Jackson broke it up with a single. And the dominant performance from Suter was a trend that's continued all season long for him against Locker Room.
Conrad/Lilly back in championship series
Brent Davison hit a solo homer as Conrad Chiropractic/Lilly American Legion clinched a berth into the City League championship series with a 6-0 win over Mountain View Archery at Vets Field on Saturday.
Davison finished with two RBIs. Lucas McCoy and Brock Porter joined him, each driving in a pair.
Derek Younker got the win, striking out three.
Conrad Chiropractic, which won the semifinal series 2-0, will now meet ProActive Sports for the City League championship. That best-of-five series will begin Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Vets.

He's given up just one run against Locker Room in three meetings.
"We barreled a few balls up," Locker Room manager RJ Barnard said. "But you have to tip your hat to him, he threw a great game. He's a good pitcher."
On the mound for Locker Room, Trey Claar didn't allow much offense either. It wasn't until the third inning that he allowed a hit to Jim Clancy.
Claar only allowed five baserunners, also pitching the distance.
"It's the old, you hate to see somebody lose a game like that, but fortunately we came out on top," Smith said.
That tough pitching from Claar forced ProActive to play small ball to manufacture its only run, which came in the fourth inning.
John Snyder led the inning off with a walk. After a single from Jake Hargreaves advanced Snyder, the duo pulled off a double steal. Tyler Neff then ripped a shot to first that was bobbled, allowing Snyder to score.
"We needed to play that way especially that their pitcher was pretty good and pitched well against us in the regular season," Smith said. "We were just looking to manufacture runs, and we knew if we happened to score a couple of runs, that's all we need."
Now, ProActive will challenge Conrad Chiropractic/
Lilly American Legion, which has taken the crown the past 10 out of 11 seasons, including last year, in the best-of-five series.
"Win it," Smith said on what he wants to change heading into the championship series. His team has been on the losing end of those championships several times.
The two teams will begin the fight for the title on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Vets.
