John H. Bowers, 83, Roaring Spring, died Wednesday morning at Homewood at Martinsburg after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late Thomas and Mary (Dick) Bowers. He married Helen Reimer on Oct. 4, 1951, and she died June 4, 2003.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews, and he was preceded in death by three brothers: Thomas, Paul and Charles.
John was a 1949 graduate of Roaring Spring High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from Appleton Papers Inc., Roaring Spring. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Roaring Spring, a 50-year member and past master of the Woodbury Lodge 539, F&AM, Roaring Spring, and a member of the Murray-Appleman American Legion Post 147, Roaring Spring.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Roaring Spring, by the Rev. Kaye Hute. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring.
