Patrick Ross Wakefield, 91, Altoona, died Wednesday morning after an extended illness.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Norman Ross and Isabell Marie (Russell) Wakefield. He married Shirley Ann Ende on June 26, 1948, in Altoona, and she preceded him in death on March 6, 2000.
Surviving are three children: Marsha A. Madel and husband, Francis, of Gordonsville, Va., Lawrence C. and wife, Candace, of Essex Junction, Vt., and Diana L. McClure and husband, Kevin, of Altoona; six grandchildren: Brett Madel, Matthew Madel and wife, Jennifer, Holly Wakefield, Joshua Wakefield, Patrick McClure and Jeffrey McClure; a sister, Norma Halton and husband, Bob, of Kokomo, Ind.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Sarah Wakefield; three sisters: Virginia, Alice and Audrey; and two brothers: Harry and Raymond.
Patrick was a 1942 graduate of Altoona High School and Parks Air Force College. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving during WWII and attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He retired as vice president of ball sales from SKF in 1986 after 32 years of service.
Patrick was a member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona, where he taught Sunday school for over 52 years, served as a lay leader and served on various other boards. He was a member of Logan Lodge 490, F&AM; Valley of Altoona, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite bodies; and the Jaffa Shrine, where he was a member and chaplain of the Chanters. He was also a member and past officer of the Juniata Civic Association. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and gardening.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m., the Rev. Robert Ryder officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
