Ira D. "ID" Clare, 92, formerly of Highland Avenue, Lewistown, passed away Monday at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.
He was born in Burnham, son of the late Ross D. and Ethel M. (Krewson) Clare. He married Jean Jordan in April 1948, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 2007.
Surviving are two daughters: Christine C. Kirsch and husband, Phillip, of Columbia, Md., and Barbara C. Murray and husband, Stephen, of Hollidaysburg; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Ira was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and had been held as a POW in Germany. He first worked in his father's general store, was a firefighter for Middletown Air Depot, and retired from the Department of Transportation in 1981 as a construction inspector, construction manager and permit manager.
Ira was a member of Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church in Lewistown and a life member of Highland Park Hose Company, Lewistown Lodge 203, F&AM, Lewistown Chapter 186 of Royal Arch Masons, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and American Ex-Prisoners of War.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church, Lewistown, Pastors Carola Beasley-Topliffe and Thomas Morningstar officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
