Dan J. Bowers, 87, Altoona, went home to be with the Lord early Wednesday morning at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Bellwood, son of the late Daniel and Wealthy G. (Rush) Bowers. He married Kathleen Rose "Kay" Koenig on July 24, 1948, in Altoona, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 2010.
Surviving are two daughters: Nancy Bruce and husband, Steve, and Cheryl Wilbur and husband, Jeffery, all of Altoona; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sylvia Sollenberger; a great-granddaughter, Kendall Williams; five sisters: Cleona Siters, Dorothy Parks, Helen Parks, Peggy Fickes and Faye Brady; and two brothers: Donald D. and Jack H.
Dan was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during WWII and Korea. He retired as a truck driver from various trucking companies with over a million miles of service. He was an avid hunter.
A private viewing will be held at the convenience of the family. A celebration of his life will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2014, with an open house at the home of his daughter, Cheryl, at 714 East St., Altoona. Interment will be made at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Angel Fund, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 511 20th St., Altoona, PA 16602.
