Barbara Ann Johnson, 70, Altoona, died Monday at UPMC Altoona.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Charlie and Sallie Elizabeth (Powell) Johnson.
Surviving are nieces and nephews: Henry Hansard Jr., Randolph Hansard, Tonya Hansard Haralson and Inetta Hansard, all of Altoona, William R., Crystal L., Terry L., Penny K. and Kerry L. Johnson, all in California, Mark D. Johnson of Troy, Mich., Karen L. Johnson of Williamsport and numerous nieces and nephews in North Carolina; great-nieces and great-nephews: Charles D. Haralson, Jonathan D. Triplin, Sean C., Andre M. and Aaron M. Hansard, Kara L. Fulmore, Deana J. Johnson and Brandon A. Midder, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; a special great-great nephew, Dominic; and her lifelong friend, Judy Hale.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: William "Boots" Johnson, John "LA" Johnson and Robert "Bob" Johnson; and three sisters: Rebecca "Peaches" Johnson, Clara Jean Hansard and an infant sister.
Barbara was a 1962 graduate of Altoona High School. She retired from the Altoona Hospital as a unit secretary in the Surgical Progressive Care Unit after 36 years of service, where she had held several leadership positions, including past president of AFSCME Local 3156. She also had been a volunteer at the wound clinic after her retirement.
Barbara attended Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was an active member and volunteer. She enjoyed reading, being with children and spending time with family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 408 N. Sixth St., Juniata, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, by the Rev. Eli Hess. Committal will be at Blair Memorial Park.
