UNIVERSITY PARK - The Outland Trophy is awarded to the nation's top interior lineman, and Penn State junior left tackle Donovan Smith earned a spot on the award's 64-person preseason watch list entering the 2014 campaign.
Smith enters his junior campaign as one of the Nittany Lions' most talented and experienced players and is an All-Big Ten candidate. He started 11 games last year and has 20 career starts over the past two seasons, the team's third-highest total. The Owings Mills, Md., native was selected first-team preseason All-Big Ten by USA Today and Lindy's and second-team all-conference by Athlon Sports and Phil Steele's College Football Preview.
The Lions now have five players on four different preseason watch lists. The other four are Kyle Carter (Mackey Award), Christian Hackenberg (Maxwell Award), Jesse James (Mackey Award) and Jordan Lucas (Bednarik Award).

After posting a 3.35 GPA in the fall, the Red Flash followed up with a 3.30 in the spring semester. The SFU team has now won the award in each semester for eight straight years.
HUNTINGDON - For the second consecutive spring season, the Juniata College women's swimming team earned the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Team Scholar All-America award.
The honor is presented to teams that have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the semester coinciding with the championship season.
"The award shows the dedication that the team has in the classroom," coach Nathan Smith said. "To do that well, while having such a great swimming season at the same time, shows that they are really focused and ready to do work in all parts of their life."
Juniata finished the 2014 spring semester with a 3.31 team GPA while setting eight program records, two Landmark Conference records, claiming three league titles and amassing the teams' highest points total at the Landmark championship meet. Juniata is one of five Landmark schools to earn this award.
