Gerald Arthur Young, 91, Portage, died Monday at his home.
He was born in Duncansville, son of Clarence Raymond and Mildred Mae (Hoffman) Young. He married Zoe Eldonia Madden on May 12, 1945, in Northampton, Mass., and she died Dec. 29, 2011.
Surviving are two sons: Gerald Eldon of East Hartford, Conn., and James Arthur Sr. of Blue Knob; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margret McDonnell of Lebanon, Pa.
He was preceded in death by four siblings: Lillian M. Noel, Betty Ruth, Charles Raymond and Russell Milton.
Gerald was a 1942 graduate of Altoona High School and served in the U.S. Navy Amphibious Force in the South Pacific from 1942-46. He had been employed with the Pennsylvania Railroad's Middle Division and the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Altoona, and a life member of the VFW, Military Order of the Cootie and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
Gerald enjoyed gardening, hunting and bird-watching.
All services will be private. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Puzzletown Road Bible Church.
