Dr. John Vere Risser, D.V.M., 88, Adamstown, Md., formerly of Altoona, died June 30, 2014, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
He was born in Lancaster County, son of the late Clarence Baker and Mary Cathryn (Shank) Risser.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth (Shuey); three children: John L. and wife, Deborah, of Lancaster, Robin Risser Mundey and husband, the Rev. Dr. Paul Mundey, of Frederick, Md., and Sherry Risser Nelson and husband, J. Eric, of Altamonte, Fla.; four grandchildren; a brother, Clarence Marlin of Palmyra; a sister, Anna Risser Ressler of Lititz; as well as nieces and nephews.
Dr. Risser proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and for most of his life, he worked as a veterinarian.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave., Frederick, Md. Private interment will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
