John D. "Jack" Burmeister Sr., 73, Coalport, passed on to meet the Lord Friday evening at his home.
He was born in Kane, son of the late Carl O. and Bessie M. (Laing) Burmeister.
He is survived by wife of 48 years, the former Patty M. Washell, whom he married on June 18, 1966, in Houtzdale; sons: John D. "Jack" Jr. (Michele) of Glasgow, David (Sonja) of Coopersburg, and Robert "Rob" (Beth) of Fallentimber. Jack was blessed with seven beloved grandchildren: Miranda, Garrett, Aiden, twins David and Sophia, Jackson and Katelyn. He is also survived by a brother, Richard of Coalport; a beloved uncle, Bob Laing; an aunt, Alice (Laing) Clawson; an uncle, Dick Laing; a sister-in-law, three brothers-in-law; several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James.
Jack was a 1959 graduate of Beccaria-Coalport-Irvona High School, and received a bachelor's and a master's degrees at Penn State University in the industrial arts program.
Mr. Burmeister retired from Glendale High School in 2002.
He was a member of Glendale (Coalport) Volunteer Fire Company, Coalport Lions and Coalport Presbyterian Church.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 9:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gibbons Funeral Home, Coalport. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Coalport Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Roland Emond, officiating. Committal will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Madera.
