Mrs. Harriet Jane Gates-Knott, 81, Logan Township, died peacefully Saturday morning at her residence.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Oliver Goldsmith and Charlotte Blanche (Rosch) Langer. She was twice married, first to James Daniel Gates in November 1951. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1973. She then married Thomas Richard Knott on July 6, 1974, in Altoona. He preceded her in death on June 2, 1987.
Surviving are three daughters: Mary (Don) Foor, Patricia (George) Rightenour and Diane Schoening; a son, Thomas R. (Christina) Knott; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Clara Dean Clapper; a niece, Bertha "Toots" Rupert; a niece who she treated like a daughter, Patty Brantner; and Joe Pelton, whom she treated as a son, and his wife, Maureen.
She was preceded in death by 15 siblings; a son-in-law, Mark Schoening; and a grandson, Johnny Boyles III.
Harriet was a member of First Church of Christ. She enjoyed bingo, yard sales and going to casinos.
Friends will be received from 3 until the 7 p.m. funeral service Monday, June 30, 2014, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona, by Pastor John Collins. A private committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
