UNIVERSITY PARK - While the Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame game scheduled for last Thursday was postponed due to weather, area players involved in the game admitted it was well worth the wait.

The District 6 squad, which featured six local players, rallied for a four-run fourth inning that helped it defeat the District 4 squad in a 10-inning game, 6-4, at Beard Field at Nittany Lion Softball Park on Thursday.

With the score knotted at one in the bottom of the third, Bellwood-Antis outfielder Emily Nagle started a District 6 rally with a single up the middle with one out.

Philipsburg-Osceola third baseman Haley Frank then singled before Penns Valley's Tangie Lyons drove a Taylor Batman pitch over the left-center field wall to take the 4-1 advantage.

Penns Valley's Ashley Struble tripled during the next at bat and scored on a passed ball to extend the lead.

"It felt good (to play at Beard Field)," Nagle said. "The last time I played here I was a sophomore and we won, but it felt really good to be here with the great players that have future plans (to play softball)."

Claysburg-Kimmel's Kiersten Coho got the start on the mound and gave up just one hit, an RBI double by Batman in the first, but settled down and struck out five in four total innings of work.

"It was nice and felt great that they picked me (to pitch)," Coho said. "It was fun to play one last high school game together (with Claysburg teammates)."

Coho doubled in the second inning and was pinch-run by Penns Valley's Megan Houser. Claysburg teammate Abby Kulick drove in Houser with a single to tie the game at 1-1.

"It was a really good experience," Kulick said. "It was fun because it was laid back. I'm going to miss (playing in high school)."

With Claysburg falling short in the state title game, Kulick was glad to end her high school career the way she did.

"It was good to end on this note," Kulick said. "I wouldn't change anything the way the state championship went. We made school history, which is an accomplishment in itself, and I'm a silver kind of girl anyway."

Claysburg second baseman Madison Ickes got some time at second base, while Central Cambria's Chelsey Long was also selected for the team.

District 4 combined for three runs I the eighth and ninth innings, but Southern Huntingdon's Hannah King provided some insurance in the bottom of the ninth inning with a single that scored Rachel Shady.

Coho came back in to pitch the 10th inning, which was allowed due to the altered rules for the game.

She gave up a single and a walk in the frame, before closing out a successful year for District 6 softball.

Game notes: Not in attendance was former Central Cambria standout Samantha Kemock, who was one of five new members added to the District 6 PSCA Hall of Fame. ... The others were Mifflin County's Kimbra Eckley, Central Mountain's Taylor Lesser, Southern Huntingdon's Renee Schmidt and former Centre Daily Times sports editor Ron Bracken.
