George L. Dixon, 79, Cumberland, Md., passed away Monday at Allegany Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late George L. Sr. and Carrie (Hollingshead) Dixon.
Surviving are three daughters: Debbie Nee and husband, David, of Surry, Va., Brenda Ritchie of Poolesville, Md., and Wendy Sisler of Cumberland, Md.; a son, Daniel and wife, Margie, of La Vale, Md.; nine grandchildren: Andy Nee and wife, Galina, Chris Nee, Jacob Ritchie, Tyler Dixon, Sarah and Justin Thomas, Josh Bittner and Kaitlyn and Emily Sisler; a great-granddaughter, Isabella Nee; and a sister, Nancy Wise.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Marie Dixon, in 2011; and a brother, David.
George was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired stock coordinator at the Kelly Springfield Tire Co. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher and a member of the choir and men's group. He was an avid and passionate bowler and bowled on the Tuesday and Thursday night leagues at The Bowler. Above all, he loved his family and especially his grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Md. Friends will also be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, June 27, 2014, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Frederick Street, Cumberland, Pastor David Wright officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
