A drug suspect who police said ate his stash of heroin is now behind bars.
Mark R. Bynum Jr., 35, of 1801 Eighth Ave. was arraigned Friday morning on felony drug charges stemming from four alleged sales of raw heroin to an Altoona police informant, according to police.
Bynum was arrested by police Monday after allegedly delivering a half gram of heroin to the informant through a middle man, Shawn Belardi, 34, of Williamsburg. While in an Altoona police holding cell, Bynum showed signs of an overdose and was taken by ambulance to UPMC Altoona, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, police said.
On Friday, Bynum was arraigned by video from the Blair County Booking Center on multiple heroin sales, including Mondays alleged deal.
According to court records, Bynum was offering half grams of heroin for $100 and whole grams for $200. Using Belardi as a middle man, Bynum sold a half gram of heroin to the informant three times before Monday. Police indicated Belardi got heroin out of the deals that were made June 6, 8 and 9 in various locations throughout the city.
Bynums bail was set by Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller at $30,000 cash for each of the four cases. Bynum remains in Blair County Prison and is slated to appear Wednesday at Central Court for his preliminary hearing.
