Josephine A. DeStefano, 96, Altoona, passed away Tuesday at Valley View Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of Michael and Mary Concetta (Porrazzo) DeStefano.
Surviving are a brother, Michael DeStefano (Rose Marie) of Altoona; a niece, Linda Rice, who was her caregiver; and other numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters. Josephine was a 1936 graduate of Altoona High School. She retired on July 2, 1982, from Puritan Sportswear as a supervisor in the full fashion division with 45 years of service. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister, and a member of the Mary, Queen of Angels, Secular Franciscan Fraternity.
Josephine was also past president of the A&J Iaia American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, sewing, collecting angels and dolls, and her favorite dog, Brooke. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
