A suspected heroin dealer who gave police the slip Monday is in custody.
Shawn R. Belardi, 34, of Williamsburg took off on foot Tuesday after he was spotted by Altoona police, who had a felony drug warrant for his arrest stemming from an alleged sale of heroin the day before, according to Altoona police.
Belardi jumped a fence and ran when police tried to arrest him in the IDA Tower parking lot on the 1000 block of 12th Street but was subsequently caught and taken into custody at Ninth Avenue and 11th Street, Altoona police Lt. Jeffrey Pratt said. Belardi was arraigned on drug and flight to avoid apprehension charges Tuesday afternoon. Belardi was taken to Blair County Prison after Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey Auker set bail at $20,000 cash.
Belardi is accused of taking part in a heroin deal Monday afternoon along with Mark R. Bynum Jr., 35, of Altoona. Bynum was immediately arrested by Altoona police and the Blair County Drug Task Force while Belardi was able to elude police until he was spotted Tuesday morning.
