Glendale regatta set for July 5
The Lake Glendale Pontoon Association will have its annual regatta at 2 p.m. July 5. The event is open to owners of all boats, including pontoon boats, sailboats and runabouts.
The regatta features decorated boats with trophies awarded for the top four entries. Previous winners have included Puff the Magic Dragon, Statue of Liberty, pirate ship, covered wagon and a paddle wheeler.
Ronald McDonald House Charities recently donated $19,022 to the Young Readership Council, which delivers a strong anti-drug message to elementary students throughout Blair County with a baseball themed “Home Run Against Drugs” program, along with the participation of Altoona Curve players. Participating in the check presentation are (from left): Heather Harrington, local McDonald’s owner; Sandi Smith, Young Readers Council site manager; and Darin Tornatore, president of Ronald McDonald House Charity of Mid-Penn Region.
Boats must be registered to participate. Preregistration will be held from noon to 5 p.m. July 3 and 4 at the main marina host campsite or on the day of the event from noon to 1:15 p.m. at the main marina.
Trophies will be awarded at a covered dish picnic at 4 p.m. at Pickerel Pond for regatta participants and association members and potential members.
The Lake Glendale Pontoon Association was established in 1969.
