Robert J. Daniels, 82, Altoona, passed away Sunday at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Matteo and Elizabeth (DeSabato) Daniele. He married Doris J. DeStefano on Jan. 26, 1957.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years; a daughter, Robyn Jo of Altoona; two sons: Matthew R. in Florida and Christopher of Altoona; three granddaughters: Ashley K., Emily and Kellie M. Daniels; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters: Mary Caporuscio, Sylvia Lombardo, Josephine Lobre and Elizabeth Bidoli; and two brothers: Michael and Lewis.
Robert attended Altoona High School. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the cruiser USS Des Moines during the Korean War. He retired from Conrail as a foreman of material management and also was a barber at Esquire Barber Shop. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and a former member of St. Mark's Church, where he had served as an usher and choir member.
Robert also belonged to the Bavarian Aid Society and Buccinese Society and was a lifetime member of the United Veterans Association. He enjoyed cooking, bowling and playing bocce.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, June 17, 2014, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
