Charles W. "Buss" Bennett, 87, Altoona, died Friday morning at the Altoona Center for Nursing Care.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Charles W. Sr. and Catherine (Stephens) Bennett. He married Joann Dinges on Dec. 24, 1960, in Cumberland, Md.
Surviving are his wife of more than 52 years; a son, Steve and wife, Donna, of Altoona; three grandchildren: Holly Garner and husband, Thad, Nicky Garner and husband, Shane, and Justin Bennett; and eight great-grandchildren: Thad Jr., Lauren, Peyton, Jackson, Colton, Dylan, Abby and Shane.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Don Livingstone; and four sisters: Catherine "Sis" Evans, Aletta McConnell, Arlene Fisher and Fern Shingle.
Buss retired from the Blair County Sheriff's Office after 22 years of service. He was one of three who graduated from the first Deputy Sheriffs Training School at Dickinson College in Carlisle. Prior to that, he had worked for more than 34 years as a bricklayer for Robison & Rider and then Tab Scarfone. His hobbies included woodworking and gardening.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, the Rev. Dr. Mlen-Too Wesley officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
