Robert John Roessing, 77, Altoona, died Wednesday afternoon at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Strand and Alice (Keiper) Roessing. He married Arlene Leonard on May 7, 1960, in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Robert Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Fallentimber; three daughters: Tammy Bolig and husband, Charles, of Aston and Kelly Grassmyer and husband, Kevin, and Jennifer Shehan and husband, Travis, both of Altoona; five grandchildren: Jessica, Jennifer, Tristan, Brady and Emily; five great-grandchildren; two sisters: Barbara Murphy and Lois Ruggiero; and two brothers: Fred and David.
Robert was a 1956 graduate of Altoona High School and served as a military policeman in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired in 1995 as an Altoona police officer after 32 years of service. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church, and he was a member of the Bavarian Aid Society, VFW and Fraternal Order of Police.
Robert enjoyed bowling, listening to music, being on his computer and watching NASCAR. He was an avid Florida Gators fan and loved his grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2014, and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, the Rev. Eli Hess officiating.
