The Altoona Chorus is the 2014 Sweet Adelines International Region 19 Small Chorus Champion. The competition was held April 24 to 27 in Ocean City, Md.
Twenty-eight members of the chorus, under the direction of Ann George, competed with 21 Sweet Adeline Choruses from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Their rendition of the ballad "I Never Meant to Fall in Love" and show tune "I Can't Give You Anything But Love/I've Got a Feeling I'm Falling," performed with choreography, won them first place in the Small Chorus Division A championship.
The Altoona Chorus also won first place in 2013, 2010, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2002 and 2001.
The Altoona Chorus, Sweet Adelines held its installation ceremony for their new board of directors on April 29. Pictured are the eight members of the board for 2014-15. This year, the chorus is celebrating its 60th anniversary. They were the first chorus in Pennsylvania to charter with Sweet Adelines International. Choruses are located in the U.S. and 14 nations throughout the world. The Altoona Chorus welcomes new members.
Ladies interested in performing barbershop harmony are invited to attend a rehearsal at 7 p.m. Tuesdays at the Jaggard United Methodist Church, 1801 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.
