Nathan Callahan of Ashville was awarded his Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor held on Dec. 8.
Nathan's Eagle Scout project was to build a set of steps at Bennington Cemetery, near Gallitzin.
The steps begin at the access road, traveling through woods to a gate near the cemetery.
Eagle Scout Nathan Callahan is shown with his parents, Tom and Amy Callahan.
The project entailed clearing the land, digging out the steps, inserting wooden steps, adding a handrail and then adding mulch and a park bench.
The project totaled 934 hours, taking seven months to complete.
The Gallitzin American Legion, Post 174, and Sons of the American Legion, Squad 174, sponsored the project.
Nathan received assistance on his project from members of the Legion, members of his Scout troop and members of the Ashville Volunteer Fire Company, as well as family and friends.
Nathan is a member of Boy Scout Troop 2059 in Gallitzin.
In addition to Scouting, Nathan is a junior member of the Ashville Volunteer Fire Company. He is a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Ashville, where he is an altar server.
Nathan just finished his freshman year at Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School, Altoona, where he participated in football and baseball.
