Golf outing is June 8 in Hastings
HASTINGS - The third annual St. Benedict School Alumni and Friends Golf Outing is scheduled for June 8 at the Cambrian Hills Country Club, Hastings.
The 18-hole scramble begins with player registration at 10:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at noon.
Patrick Weber, 17, a student at Hollidaysburg Area Senior High?School, received his Federal Aviation?Administration private pilot’s license on Dec. 28. Patrick has been taking flying lessons and attending ground school at the Bellefonte Airport since he was 15 years old. Patrick will attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at Daytona Beach, Fla., this fall, majoring in aerospace engineering.
A $70 per player registration fee includes 18 holes with cart, lunch, course refreshments, prizes and a 4 p.m. family-style picnic.
Non-golfers are welcome with a $10 per adult picnic-meal purchase.
All proceeds benefit St. Benedict School, Carrolltown.

Art camp registration due Friday
HOLLIDAYSBURG - The Hollidaysburg Area Arts Council is accepting final registrations for two of their 2014 Art Camps until Friday.
The enrollment is limited, and prepaid registration is required.
Camps will be held the week of July 7 to 11 at Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School with instructor Alicia Watt.
Camp 1 is for ages 6 to 8. It will be held from 9 a.m. to noon.
Camp 2 is for ages 9 to 11. It will be held from 1 to 4 p.m.
Cost of the camps is $75 per camp.

Spade and Trowel to meet Monday
HOLLIDAYSBURG - Members of the Spade and Trowel Garden Club met recently to plan for its participation in the various community beautifcation projects they have suppoted for many years.
A work party was held May 12 to weed the planter at Longer Elementery School and the planters on the Diamond in Hollidaysburg.
On May 13, members joined with parents and students of Mrs. Gildea's Head Start class at Frankstown Elementery School. A workshop and program was held. Students served relish trays of vegetables they had grown.
On Arbor Day, a check for $100 was given to the Shade Tree Commission to help purchase new trees for Allegheny Street. The club has made a contribution for more than 25 years.
Karen Woomer was appointed treasurer due to the death of treasurer and longtime member Evelyn Diehl.
Weather permitting, the next meeting will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Legion Park.
Strawberry festival set for Sunday
CRESSON - The Cresson Presbyterian Church will hold a Strawberry Festival from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the church on the corner of Keystone Avenue and Third Street.
It will include homemade cake, strawberries, Vale Wood Farms ice cream and drinks.
Eat-in or takeout will be available.
Entertainment will be provided by Dan and Galla, and there will be clowns for the children.
A silent auction will include two club seats to a Pittsburgh Steelers football game, a Pittsburgh Penguins basket, gift cards and more.
Pressure canners to be tested
MARTINSBURG - Master Food Preserver Jackie Forsht will be at the Penn State Cooperative Extension Office, 310 Airport Drive, Suite 9, to test dial gauge pressure canner lids from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
If you are not able to come that day you can drop off your dial gauge canner lid beforehand for testing.
The testing is available at no charge and you just need to bring the canner lid with the gauge. Weighted gauge canner lids do not need to be tested. In addition, Forsht will have information on food preservation and will be able to answer questions about preserving the summer harvest.

The Altoona Spasmodic Dysphonia & Dystonia support group will hold its annual picnic at 2 p.m. June 8 at the home of one of its members.
